The “No” in November

Updated: Apr 3, 2023

I don’t know about you, but my favorite month is definitely November. This month is known for giving thanks, and for different types of change. Lots of different things are changing, like the weather and the loss of daylight just to name a couple. For me, it is a time of reflection on all the things that I am thankful for with each passing year. I have taken on a new gratitude mindset, so this year my focus is a little deeper in the gratitude department. My new focus will not only be on being grateful for what I have, but also practicing the “NO” in November. I recently discovered an Instagram post that encouraged people to celebrate the “NO” in November, and I had never heard of this before. This new thought made me pause and consider all of the things that I could say no to that could potentially help me become a better version of myself.

As I continued thinking about this phrase, what came to mind for me first was to stop trying to control all of the things that are totally out of my control. First, I have to say no to trying to change people. I can't make people see things the way that I see them, especially if they don't want to see it any differently than they currently do. Secondly, I will say no to things that make me stressed, as well as the things that do not contribute to my life in a positive way. I will most definitely say no to the people who make me feel like I am not enough in any way. I am saying no to expecting others to do for me what I am willing to do for them, because it doesn’t always happen that way. Saying “no” to these things simply means I am setting boundaries for things that I will not tolerate or that brings negativity into my life.

Ultimately, I will say YES to all the things that make me feel joyus ,calm, loved and appreciated. That being said, I am saying yes to living in the moment and soaking in every bit of life that I can, because we never get this day again. My suggestion is for you to make your “YES” and “NO” list. Find ways to show your gratitude for the life that you have, and write down things you will and will not allow into your life. After all, you are the one that has the most control over this life that you get to live! Get that journal out and start writing down all of the good things and watch your list grow with each passing day. Remind yourself that it's okay to say no sometimes, especially when it brings you more peace and makes your life better. Feel free to share your thoughts about this topic in the comments below! Have a happy, happy November!
